Gawad Kalinga

We had an outreach for FormDev and it was held at Gawad Kalinga, Baseco. It was really hard to organize such event because there were lots of CCS students who are taking FormDev classes this term and all of us are going to GK that day. It was supposed to be one class per bus. But since they ran out of buses to use, S18 (or my class) was split into two and each half went with S17 and S19. Imagine kung gaano kasikip yon. Punung-puno na nga yung aisle ng mga taong nakatayo eh, especially nung pauwi na kasi nadagdagan kami lalo since sumunod yung mga ROTC students.

Well anyway, our task is to interview at least 4 families about their stay in GK and how GK has been able to help them in terms of food, shelter, etc. It was done by pairs and my partner is David Or. It was a bit hard to do the interview because some of them don't want to be interviewed. But we finished a little earlier though, because David has to take off right away. When David left, I looked for Jay and we hung out for a while but later on I was given another family to interview. After which, we just stayed at the ihawan and ate lots of dugo. LOL We arrived back at school at around 5pm.

It was pretty much a learning experience for me. It made me realize how serious our problem is regarding poverty. Some of the families interviewed are not that happy with their stay at GK because eventhough they are given their own house to live in, most of them don't have sufficient money to support their kids. Anyway, I hope GK would continue doing this so they might help shelter more families and keep them away from harm.

Tilt your head.
